Andrew Menaker, PhD

Andrew’s more of a “stretch” than a “shrink”. He’s known as a performance coach for high achievers.

A licensed clinical psychologist with formal training in psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and CISM/CISD (Critical Incident Stress Mgt/Debriefing) modalities, Dr. Andrew Menaker’s experience as an active trader, combined with his background in threat assessment with law enforcement and U.S. military influence his pragmatic approach to coaching. Interesting side note – Andrew has conducted dozens of bank robbery debriefings.

In the early 90’s, Andrew spent two years as a psychological consultant and independent contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Navy. Assisting senior military officers with threat assessment and crisis management, Andrew gained valuable experience consulting with key decision makers and applying situational awareness concepts. U.S. Military Intelligence, NCIS (not the TV show), the U.S. Secret Service, and other federal agencies frequently sought Andrew’s advice. He was instrumental in the positive outcome of several very high-risk situations, resulting in Andrew receiving a letter of commendation from the U.S. Navy (Click here to read).

In 1995 Andrew joined Wells Fargo Bank and HSBC Trade Bank as a psychological consultant working with institutional traders. When he entered the financial and trading world, Andrew quickly realized that situational awareness, crisis management, and threat assessment share many things in common with trading and investment psychology. The response to uncertainty, risk, and opportunity – our own Inner Market (IM) – is a primary factor in success.

Andrew’s skill as a performance coach goes well beyond the usual practices popular today (e.g. mindfulness, N.L.P). His training and experience in a wide variety of high pressure and high-risk situations combined with his own personal experience as a trader, chronicled in the book, How The World’s Most Successful Traders Make Their Living In The Market has shaped his approach to performance coaching.

Andrew’s approach effectively translates recent neuroscience research into actionable steps that improve performance.

He uses a variety of methods to improve a client’s response to uncertainty, risk and opportunity, using emotion as a source of information and understanding unconscious motivations. He addresses the mind-body connection, which may include HRV biofeedback, as well as assisting clients in creative and intuitive development.
